Artists In Schools

For the 2024-25 school year, the Mulvane Art Museum is providing arts integration instruction by professional teaching artists for the Topeka and area public school district. I am a participating artist. The intent is to provide arts-based instruction directly to K-12 students in their classrooms. Each participating artist will also offer a free public presentation or workshop at the Mulvane Art Museum. This program is made possible by the Kansas Arts Commission and the Arts Everywhere Grant.

During my art lessons, I briefly discuss my art style and process. Then, I have the students create a mixed media self portrait using colored pencils, markers, oil pastels and stickers. I encourage them to create a fabric, that tells a story, in the t-shirt of their portrait.
