Artistic Expressions:
Healing Arts Initiative
I facilitated art sessions as part of the Artistic Expressions: Healing Arts Initiative. The program was created by a local artist named John Sebelius, to address PTSD of Veterans and other groups that have experienced trauma. During sessions, participants engaged in low skill art activities for reflection and relaxation purposes. Through a partnership with the local art advocacy organization, ArtsConnect, artists, including myself, received training in order to go out into the community and facilitate sessions. I partnered with M.Y.G.I.R.L.S Inc, a non-profit organization for created for the empowerment of young Black children, in order to hold sessions for children, ranging from ages 6-18 years old. I also held sessions at the Kansas Children's Discovery Center.
